Gillon Family - New Zealand
The GILLON family of New Zealand grew up in Waihola and Dunedin in Otago. Their parents were of Irish stock and had been working with family in the Isle of Man for many years before travelling to New Zealand. James GILLON tried his luck on the New Zealand Gold fields (no luck) while his wife set up, managed, and taught at private schools to help pay the bills. The home schooled worked well. Edward Thomas GILLON became a famous New Zealand Journalist and Newspaper editor and has a Biography in Te Ara - the Encyclopedia of New Zealand. The Irish Gillon ancestors moved to the Isle of Man in the early 1800s, where there may have already been some Gillon relatives.
